In case you haven't read my blog before, we have been remodeling our home for a few months now all to add a 3rd bedroom after having our second child (her older brother was tired of sharing his room.) The theme I had in mind was more of a vintage child's room but with some modern elements. Something that can grow with her over the years so I won't have to change it anytime soon. I like the more neutral color palette and I think pastels are just so sweet for a little girl's room. I wanted it to be pretty but at the same time practical and fun for her.<br />

Hopefully by the beginning of summer we will have it all finished where we can all relax...for a little while anyway. Over the weekend I finished my sons room. Nothing too big but just changes to go from a toddler room to a "big boy room." Since his sister is finally moving out of his room that they shared to her own room, he wanted a new look too. I put together a little collage of some pictures to give you an idea of the new changes.<br />

So excited to finally have a master bath in our bedroom. My husband and I found this older dresser and repurposed it into our vanity. We bought a square wall mount sink at Home Depot that worked perfect on top. My husband had to do a lot of wood working on the drawers to box them in for the plumbing and try to give us as much usable storage space as possible. He was able to make all the drawers function which was my goal. We decided to use mostly glass in the shower because this is not a very big bathroom and with no closed in spaces it gives it the illusion it is bigger than it really is. I got the light base part in oil rubbed bronze at Home Depot as well. It was just the flat base that goes against the wall..it did not come with the globes (I didn't like any of the options for the globes they had.) I went online and found a website that sells the light cages that are used to cage in lights on constructions sites. They were originally a brass color and I sprayed them with oil rubbed bronze spray paint. I was pleased how they turned out. Hope you all like it too! It was so much fun designing and picking out all the details but I am sooo glad it is finally done and useable! Now on to the next project:)<br />

It took a little longer because of planking the wall and building the floating shelves and desk. I collected items for months that I wanted to style the shelves with. I wanted to make it all cohesive with the theme of studying and learning and this is what I ended up with...<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">I have numbered pots, an old tin lunch box, a flash card I made to look vintage, metal tool box, books, vintage scale and some wooden squares from Michael's that I painted with chalkboard paint then wrote the word "study." The desk is just a large piece of wood I stained and is held up by old corbels that came from an early 1900s house. On the side wall I made eye charts with my children's names. I made them on the computer one late night then framed them not sure how they would turn out, but I really like them. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The red chair was an afterthought. I had their chair downstairs and it was solid wood from pier 1. I stained it originally and it turned out good but it was a little too much wood going on for me in this area. The back door is right across from this nook and it is painted red. So I took the leftover paint I had from the door and did almost a whitewash (I guess it would be a redwash then?) to the chair so you can still see the wood grain and some variation in the darker wood spots. It added just enough of a pop of color.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was happy that with all the remodeling we were able to use every inch of space and try to make it useable. I had always wanted a study nook type of space for the kids to color and draw and one day be able to do homework at:)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will do more detailed tutorials on the planking and floating shelves another time.</div>

I've got a million projects going on right now but I thought I would share my latest one I have finished. If you have been following my blog then you know that I had to move my laundry room to a laundry closet off the kitchen so we could add back a 3rd bedroom. We framed up the closet and added all the plumbing and proper vents. Then it came to picking out the doors. I wanted a small French door look. It needed to be pretty since it is in the kitchen and well be seen all the time. I also wanted it to look like pantry doors so you would never know it is a laundry closet. We are on a budget so I search the materials section on craigslist often. One day I came across the perfect set of doors and it was exactly the right measurements...that never happens! The man said he got them at Lowes I believe and just never used them. They were new but were stored in his garage so they had got a little banged up and definitely needed a little work. We got them hung and at first I was just going to paint them white like my cabinets but then I thought these would be the perfect piece to do something a little different and something that pops in the kitchen. I have a few wood pieces here and there and the doors have a wood grain look to them (I guess it's in the door mold because these are not wood doors.) So I then decided I wanted to try a faux wood look and give them an aged look like they were 100 year old doors that I spent a lot of money on :)<br />
Here is the finished product...<br />
<br />
<a data-pin-do="buttonBookmark" href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/button/"><img src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/pidgets/pinit_fg_en_rect_gray_20.png" /></a>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hGHOv9atDcI/UxckOM3AGoI/AAAAAAAABLk/5gDBHYVBRKo/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hGHOv9atDcI/UxckOM3AGoI/AAAAAAAABLk/5gDBHYVBRKo/s1600/image.jpg" height="640" width="322" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I'll give a step by step tutorial for anyone that wants to transform any plain door you have </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
around the house. First I stained it with a dark walnut stain. As you can see in the picture below the </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
white door is the original and the other is the stained door. After I stained and wiped, it didn't turn out extremely dark because it didn't soak up the stain like a real wood door but it did enough to give it a wood base color for when I do my faux finish. This is important because if it didn't have a base color then when I do the darker color later and streak it, the white would show through and not the lighter stained wood color that gives it the real wood look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ins70xNhrjw/Uxcjyp9DfnI/AAAAAAAABJk/vhr-OXMaL-M/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ins70xNhrjw/Uxcjyp9DfnI/AAAAAAAABJk/vhr-OXMaL-M/s1600/image.jpg" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also if you notice the darker spots in the stained door..those were on purpose lol I wanted a real authentic looking aged door and there are always blemishes and imperfections in very old doors so I found a way to replicate it. Before I stained I took DAP spackling and smoothed it in a couple areas </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
like around edges and let it dry. Then when you stain, it stains the spackling darker then the rest of </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
the door thus giving it age spots.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SNceYujypk0/UxcoM5Z5kpI/AAAAAAAABL8/4LzCoU78zi0/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SNceYujypk0/UxcoM5Z5kpI/AAAAAAAABL8/4LzCoU78zi0/s1600/image.jpg" height="400" width="358" /></a></div>

This is some of the spackling before stain...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is it after stain...</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After the stain has dried then it's time for the faux wood coloring. I mixed my own because I couldn't find the perfect color. I bought Valspars "journey" and then mixed a little black to it to get the deep rich brown.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I put a little paint on my brush and lightly brushed it on. You don't want too much paint on the </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
brush or it will go on too thick. If it does go on thicker in spots just take a rag and wipe it. It needs to be very thin so you can still see the wood grain if your door has that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Then you repeat those steps on the other door and the inside of both doors so it truly looks like wood doors when you open them. I did the trim also using the same technique so it all looks like one big old set.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are some finished pictures. I still need to spray paint the hinges to match the doors better. I ended up using some old white porcelain door knobs I already had instead of the oil rubbed bronze ones I had purchased from Lowes. The white just stood out more against the dark wood and went with the vintage theme I was trying to go for. </div>

I also added a little nook above the doors for extra storage and I thought it looked better than just framing it up and putting drywall all the way to the ceiling.</div>

Hope you like them...it definitely gave the look I wanted. That is the first thing everyone notices when they go into the kitchen. If you want to try this, it really only took me a couple hours per door to do so it is a manageable project. </div>

I thought today I would share my DIY weekend project. For a while now I have been wanting moss balls for decorating but everywhere I have seen them they are $10+ a ball so after buying 4 you would have $40 invested in moss balls. I always thought that was a little crazy so I've never went through with it. Well this past week my husband picked me up an adorable shabby coffee table at an estate sale. As I was pondering what I wanted to put on top of it I came back to the moss balls. I was determined now, so on Friday I went to Joanns and found the solution. They had a nice selection of the bags of moss and had the perfect color that I wanted (I like the deeper green color.) I grabbed the last 2 bags and then bought a package of the styrofoam balls that were on sale for 40% off. I used my 40% off coupon for the moss then they also had a 15% off coupon off your entire purchase. Long story short I got the materials to make 8 moss balls for a little over $10. I was so excited...I love that store!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a picture of the top of the coffee table. All of my moss balls are in a glass atrium type piece that I scored at TJ Maxx on clearance for $10. I loved the nautical type look of the knotted rope on top and the wooden bottom. I found this cute wooden basket with leather handles at Target. It was a raw wood color so I stained it a little darker to match all my other wood tones in the house and it gave it a more aged look I think too. Then I had 2 old vintage books I took from my collection and added them to the vignette as well because they were the perfect size and filled up the space nicely.</div>

I didn't have a coffee table before so I'm so happy now we have a place to put drinks and feet and anything else we want. My son has already used it for a racetrack for his matchbox cars so it seems the kids like it as well:) It's a beautiful day today so I think we will spend much of it outside. Hope everyone has a good week!</div>

There's not a whole lot of options for places to put them in my kitchen except for one spot on the end by the hallway. It's also the spot that is most visible from other rooms in the house (if you are going to display your pretties, you want people to actually see them:)) So I had been contemplating this for months and I finally made the decision to just do it. My husband has been super busy with the bathroom remodel and doesn't have time for all my little side projects I come up with so I thought I would just tackle it myself. I decided to leave the cabinet base there and just remove the door. That way if for some reason I ever decided to go back to wanting the cabinet, I could just add the door back and call it a day. I also like the way the cabinet base framed the shelves and it all flowed nicely with the rest of the kitchen. I then removed the ugly shelves that were inside. I went to Lowe's and bought a sheet of stain-able grade wood. I traced the old shelves onto the new wood so I had exact measurements then made my cuts. I then took my stain that I already had from staining my dining room table and stained the newly cut wood.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-68udlr-wQxo/UwIbzkfT9NI/AAAAAAAABHk/Ak37qlSRprU/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-68udlr-wQxo/UwIbzkfT9NI/AAAAAAAABHk/Ak37qlSRprU/s1600/image.jpg" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I then painted the entire inside of the cabinet the same color as the outside of the cabinets (which is like an antique creamy white) I think it's a pretty contrast to the dark stained wood.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also used the existing gold little brackets that were already in there to hold the shelves up but I spray painted them oil rubbed bronze, which is my go-to spray paint that I use on so many of my projects. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

One day I may end up taking out the cabinet base and do complete open shelving but for now I am very happy with the outcome. I now have another place to display some of my treasures and it breaks up the boring row of white cabinets with some visual interest. Hope you like too!</div>

So on this snowy morning I thought I would finally go through some of my pictures on my camera. My little baby girl turned one a few months ago and we had a "vintage princess" themed party. I had way to much fun planning and getting all the props together for this party. I have a four year old son as well and love planning his parties too, but finally being able to plan a girly girl party with lace and pastels was a blast!:) I didn't want to spend a lot on this party so I tried to either make everything or use what was around the house. Thought I would share some of the pictures from the party...<br />

Nothing too crazy but wanted something cute above the toilet and a place to hold extra toilet paper for guests. It's an extremely tiny bathroom with no room for storage! But that's ok I still love this bathroom because it is full of charm especially with the cute 1950s grey and black tile. Here's the new setup...<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found an old chalkboard that fit perfect in here with little wooden rods at the bottom which was just wanted I needed to hold the toilet paper! I put "floss, brush, wash, flush" because I thought that would be cute since it's the kids bathroom and was fitting. Underneath I hung my old, chippy red shelf and added a few galvanized pieces (I'm obsessed with anything galvanized) including my little punched tin tray. Then a white metal star I had that I took from another shelf, and my painted bumblebee sits in the bucket.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a full view looking into the bathroom from the hallway. I also put a little chalkboard on the door that says "bath" so guests have no question which door it is when they walk through the hallway.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When we bought this house I left everything original in this bathroom including the cast iron tub (it's not pictured...it's to the right) except I changed out the old vanity to this one because this one is very narrow and allowed more walking room and I liked the sink bowl. I also changed out the not so pretty vanity mirror and replaced it with this black wood framed one. I love adding things to this bathroom because I would say 75 % of our guests use the restroom while they are here so I want to try to make it as cute as possible!:)</div>

It's been a few months since we started but my husband and I are doing it all ourselves little by little on the weekends and evenings. My husband had to make this bath from nothing because it was actually our old dining room, which was right off the master bedroom. We knocked out the wall between the two and put a door and then closed off the other wall that was open from the dining room to the kitchen (sorry if that's hard to follow.) So therefore my husband had to run all new plumbing, electrical, framing and all that not so fun stuff. We have now put up Sheetrock and started tiling the shower floor. Thought I would give you a sneak peek:)<br />
<br />
This was the dining room before we closed it off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C9-khUljIsM/UukHxQ3srEI/AAAAAAAAA-E/Zrtv9mnzLmw/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C9-khUljIsM/UukHxQ3srEI/AAAAAAAAA-E/Zrtv9mnzLmw/s1600/image.jpg" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is from the same point of view as the before picture, which is from the kitchen. As you can see we have closed off that wall now and added a little laundry closet. On this new wall we are going to wood plank the whole thing(it's not a very big wall) and add a small desk down low and barnwood shelves up top for displaying goodies:) I'm excited about that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8H9yOEEuRC0/UukIrzwMZBI/AAAAAAAAA-g/Bgtnku1YL8w/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8H9yOEEuRC0/UukIrzwMZBI/AAAAAAAAA-g/Bgtnku1YL8w/s1600/image.jpg" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a picture from the master bedroom looking into the new bathroom. This is going to be the new shower. The red stuff is a waterproofing liner we put on before we tile. Probably can't tell a whole lot about the layout or anything because we haven't put the vanity or toilet in yet. It's a very small bathroom but it will be perfect for what we need and I can't wait to add all the finishing touches!</div>

This is the shower floor tile. It's been layed but not grouted yet. I chose a small hexagonal pattern in a Carrara marble looking stone. I love them! They are white tones with a little bit of grey. The wall tile will be white subway tile. I was going for the simple, classic, timeless look. Sorry about the dark pictures, we don't have all the lighting installed yet.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The reason for doing this whole remodel is because we had a 2 bedroom 2 bath house previously. The 2nd bath used to be a 3rd bedroom but the previous owners converted it into a big laundry/bathroom, which was nice to have but after just recently having our 2nd child we really needed that 3rd bedroom back. The only problem was making that back into a bedroom meant losing that bathroom and having to all share one bath. After racking my brain for months and months I finally came up with the idea to close off the dining room and make that a master bath. That way we would have 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Perfect solution...although I loved my little dining room and was a little sad to see it go, it will be well worth it. Plus the dining room has moved to an unused space by the front door by a big window with views of the mountains, so I'm getting used to that:)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So basically we have been living in chaos and Sheetrock dust and I can't wait for it to be done! Not only do I get to decorate my new bathroom but that also means I get to redecorate my sons room, and my daughters new room (they had been sharing a room.) I'm sooo excited about making my sons room boyish and my daughters room girly. Who knew one bathroom project would turn into 10 other projects? haha So I'll be having a lot of reveals in the next few months. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hope everyone has a Happy Tuesday!</div>

Although it is Freezing here, I'm still happy it's Friday! I did some rearranging with my distressed chippy cabinet. I moved a lot of my ironstone into this cabinet and some of my vintage sewing supplies still on their original cards. I have my piece of tin picture frame with an old picture of my husbands late grandfather and his dump truck and a few other odds and ends I thought would be cute in here. On top I added some scattered pine cones and my little white deer. Also my vintage looking locker basket with my ironstone plates and bread board. I got this bread board from the thrift store and it was originally a blonde colored wood which didn't go with anything in my house, and since it's just for decoration I stained it a walnut color and love the aged look it gave it.<br />

I also moved my huge chalkboard over here that was in the dining room. Since we have moved the dining room, I thought this would be a good spot for it. This cabinet sits right when you enter the front door so beside it is my numbered coat rack made of old wood. It has some heavy duty vintage iron hooks so it can hold plenty of coats, which is nice since we do not have a coat closet.</div>

It's funny how doing a little rearranging can really give a space a fresh new look and can make me so happy...I guess it's just the little things! Thank you for stopping by my blog...hope you will come back again to visit!</div>

It's been complete chaos for the past few months, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel:) With the new remodel I had to switch the location of the dining room. In the new space I didn't like my chandelier so I was out on a new mission to find a new light. The problem was everything I liked was hundreds and hundreds of dollars, which is not within our budget right now. I wanted a statement piece and something a little outside the box. Basically I came to the conclusion that it wasn't feasible to buy what I wanted so we would just have to make it ourselves. So I came up with a design that I liked and my husband built it (that's how we roll;)) I wanted something that had rustic and farmhouse elements because that's what I love. This is what we came up with.<br />

We used a piece of old barnwood we had laying around the house as the base. I wanted the lights to have a chicken wire feel. I had thought about using actual chicken wire and molding it in the shape I wanted (a lot of hard work) and then I came across these waste baskets at the dollar store. They were white when I bought them so I spray painted them with oil rubbed bronze to give them the vintage look. They came out great! They are comparable to the chicken wire look I was going for and the best part is I have a whole $3 invested. We then bought the light sockets and chain at lowes. From there my husband did all the wiring and then built a small raised box on top of the barnwood to hide all the ugly wires. We then stained it all the same color to match. I love how it turned out and is exactly what I envisioned! Hope you all like it too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Within the next few weeks we will be finishing up the master bath so I will be posting some pics and also of some of the other projects we are working on! Hope everyone has a Happy Tuesday!!</div>

This table is a very nice well built table but there were some things I was not very happy with aesthetically speaking. I had immediately reupholstered the chairs from a very ugly floral print to some fabric I already had and loved. I was pleased with the chairs and the legs of the chairs and table but not the table top. The wood top was a light blonde color and did not pop against the base and just wasn't my style or preference. I had originally thought about removing the top altogether and putting 4 slats of wood instead like I had seen many people do on pinterest. Then I thought why waste a perfectly nice piece of wood? So I got my electric hand sander out and sanded off all the finish and previous stain off the top and then sanded the sides and little crevices by hand with a sheet of sand paper. It took about 2 hours but this step is very important because you have to get to the base wood in order for it to take the stain. I then applied one coat of dark walnut stain and let it dry. Then I put another coat of stain and did it heavier in some spots then others so it would give it the aged/distressed look. After that dried I put a coat of poly on. I really like the outcome and it looks like a brand new table. It only cost me $20 for stain and poly.<br />

I've been away from the blogging world for a while...just been so busy enjoying life with my 3 year old son and the newest addition, my baby girl :) ,enjoying the beautiful weather that has been long overdue and been busy working on home projects! I thought for my first post back I would update on my last post which was my 1940's farmhouse sink. I got it for a steal on Craigslist for $50 but it did need a little tlc. My husband and I wet sanded it down and then re-enameled the whole thing. It was a very long process that took a few weeks but it was well worth it in the end. Here is the final product...<br />

It fits perfectly where the old sink was and I used my old faucet which also fit wonderfully. I used to have a double basin and I was worried about going to the single but I love it! I wash the dishes in the sink then I have the 2 drain boards on either side to put the clean dishes for drying. Its super easy to keep clean so not only is it easy on the eyes but it's very functional as well. I have wanted one of these sinks forever so I could not be more happier with the outcome and it gives my kitchen so much added character. It's one of the first things people notice and compliment on...and they can't believe the price when I tell them. When I shop I have to score the bargains because I'm a stay at home mom and on a limited budget. But honestly I think I would bargain hunt even if I didn't have to because it's such an addiction finding something magnificent for so cheap. Does anyone else get that rush?? My husband says half the time I buy things I don't really need but I get them anyway just because I get a good deal on it. haha Somehow I don't think I'm alone in that. Anyway it's good to start to blog again and I hope everyone is doing well..love reading all your blogs on a daily basis and love finding new ones to read!a house full of vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14472320372050609749noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3396263542398165325.post-82999416068345947962013-02-19T12:26:00.001-08:002013-02-19T12:31:43.117-08:00farmhouse sinkI have always wanted the old farmhouse sink with the washboards on each side. I have looked for many years but they have always been too expensive or the one in my price range is always in really bad shape. Finally I found one that only needs a little work for...wait for it...$50! I was beyond excited! It needs a light sanding and then we are going to refinish it with a couple coats of an epoxy and put my existing faucet on it. I will have less than $100 in it. My husband and the kids and I took a 45 minute drive to get it on valentines day. We all had a nice dinner downtown and got coffee at the cutest little shop after. It was the perfect valentines day!! My husband says only I would be excited to spend valentines day getting a sink...it doesn't take much to make me happy!<br />

<br />
<br />
The only concern I have is I hope I didn't get spoiled with the double sink and now not be able to function with just the one sink basin but this one is a good size plus I have the sides to stack dishes:) I'll make it work. Ill post more pictures as soon as we get it finished and installed so stay tuned. Hope ya'lls week is going wonderful so far! The weather here has felt like spring the last few days and now that I have had a little taste of it I couldn't be more ready for the warm weather to stay for good...not too much longer:) I thought I would share one of my favorite pieces i have in my house! I love this old cabinet mainly because my grandfather built it. He passed away years ago but was a fabulous furniture maker and I cherish every piece I have that he made. This one sits in my living room by the front door and houses a lot of my favorite goodies that I like to display (and I like that they are behind glass so the kiddies don't get them:))<br />

It fits perfectly under my stain glass window. I've put things such as some of my old glass jars, my willow tree angels, vintage stars, picture of my husband's grandfathers dump truck from way back when, family pictures, vintage glass doorknob, white bowls, wire basket and metal signs.</div>

There was no paint on this when my parents gave it to me. It was just stained a dark walnut color which was pretty but to better go with the rest of my decor I painted it white and distressed it to give more of the vintage feel. I added a wire basket with wooden handles and silver pots with flowers on top because it was too bare without anything.</div>

After adding the new cabinet I got inspired to change a few things around. This room is very small and always seemed dark to me so I've tried to add lighter colors to make it feel happy and bigger than what it really is.<br />

I was beyond excited because I had been looking for something for a while to display some of my goodies. The problem I have is my dining room is on the smaller side and the table takes up much of the space. A regular china cabinet would make it feel too cramped for the person sitting at the end. This corner cabinet is perfection because it doesn't interfere with any of the chairs and is tucked far enough away that there's still room to walk by it and not feel claustrophobic. I've displayed some of my ironstone pieces and <span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Pfaltzgraff plates and some of my wooden treasures mixed in. I added the locker basket on top to give it more height and to hold my linen napkins.</span><br />

I have always tried to find the perfect "something" to put on this wall but have never been happy with what I've came up with. It needed to be something pretty big that gave a presence. The other day I went to the garage/outbuilding we have at the bottom of the driveway (that I never go in because its creepy and full of spiders) to find my husband and when I walked in I saw the piece I had be searching oh so long for. Ironically it had been at my house the whole time. It was one of the original picture windows from my home over 75 years ago. I guess the previous owner had so generously stored it in the garage just for me knowing I would need it one day:)<br />

<br />
After I cleaned it up a little (not too much though because I wanted to keep the vintage charm) I screwed it into the wall and added a wreath to give it a little contrast and I love it! I'm still not completely done I want to add a few more things but its a start. I'm so excited I finally found my statement piece.<br />

</div>
Finally hung the growth chart ruler my husband made and surprised me with for Christmas! I had seen a couple of the rulers on pinterest and had hinted to him I would love one of these to see our kids growth each year before they got too old. This is what I was surprised with Christmas Eve ( he couldn't wait til Christmas Day to give it to me) It was his own version and design of it. I was beyond ecstatic! He took a piece of 100 year old wood from a local barn that was torn down. The marks and scrapes on it are beautiful and could never be duplicated. That's its true color he just put a clear coat on top after sanding. He burnt all the lines into the wood and burnt our children's names at the top. Each child gets a side of the ruler so we know who's who. The numbers are house numbers he bought from lowes. This is by far the best gift he has ever given me! It is something I will keep forever and ever and ever and one day even mark my grand kids height on it as well. It was so heavy I needed help to hang it on the wall in our living room. My husband helped me yesterday so now I can sit back and admire it everyday and have a tradition to mark heights every year on their birthdays!<br />

<br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old and there seems like there is never enough space to store the toys galore at our house. As the 3 month old gets older it will only get worse. Many of the toys stay in the living room because that's where my 3 year old son likes to play. I was getting tired of stepping on toys all the time and didn't want any of the cheap storage alternatives I've seen at the stores. I wanted a timeless piece that would go with the rest of my decor and look nice while giving a home to the toys. I then went to my husband and gave him my thoughts and ideas (he has a wonderful design sense and is fabulous at building anything!). A few trips to lowes and a couple days later I now have this and I love it! The top part is made from stainable wood we stained to match our floors and we beat it with hammers and screwdrivers (my son loved helping with that part:)) to give it a vintage aged look. We made the dimensions so it would fit perfectly behind the couch and serve as a console table too. I picked up the cute chicken wire baskets at Marshall's and loved how they looked with it. I couldn't be happier and now the toys can stay in the living room/play area without looking so messy!</span><br />

One of my New Years resolutions is to try and complete the many projects and to-do lists I have around the house, so I figured why not have a little fun blogging about it along the way. My husband and I love to find neat unique vintage salvage pieces and incorporate it in our home. It's a passion of ours and something we do together. We like old pieces and like to repurpose them but also like to mix it with new. My husband is a wonderful furniture builder so he will be adding a few of his hand built pieces as well. The goal of this blog is to have fun putting together treasures and decorating different spaces of our house and hopefully inspiring a few people along the way. We invite you into our home and hope you will follow along with us on this journey!a house full of vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14472320372050609749noreply@blogger.com3
